Hey everyone. Welcome back. It has been a little bit of time since I have been back on this podcast, and as we were talking about starting this backup, I didn't actually realize it had been over two years since we had recorded new content for you guys, and it's amazing how time really just slips away. So I wanted to share with you, as we pick this back up and we're moving forward, I wanted to tell you a little bit about what we've been doing the last couple of years because.
It's been kind of a crazy ride and it's been pretty quick and we've been doing quite a few things. Um, and so a lot of those things we've been able to already implement into our clinic and we've been doing them. Um, but as families are coming in, I realized we haven't had an opportunity to share what we've been doing with anyone else.
So I wanna take that time now to kind of talk about what we've done in the last few years. And one of the biggest things is, is that we've been able to complete some training, um, so that we can provide a scoliosis specific, uh, rehabilitation program to our community locally. So a lot of times people might use, uh, it's what's called A-P-S-S-E program.
It's very specific to scoliosis and kyphosis, and it's, it's different than, say, like a generalized uh, rehabilitation program because it's very specific and it actually works on stopping. The progression in different things for scoliosis, and we haven't had access to that here. A lot of people have had to travel multiple states away.
Um, some of that was a little bit more limited, uh, having not as much access to that. And so these last couple of years I've completed training and become advanced certified in this program. And we've been able to offer this to our patients and our community and we have just seen amazing results. Um, and if I'm being quite honest, more.
More advancement than I would've anticipated. Like I didn't even realize myself until we got about six months into it, the changes that were happening in even patients that we had already been working with for maybe a year or two. And we just saw such great improvements that we've had a great opportunity to, to help the people in our office.
But I wanna be able to share that with you. So that'll be coming up on a. Episode coming, I think in the next couple of weeks. Um, but in addition to that, I've also been able to travel and take some additional courses to become more advanced certified in Scully Brace. So as a lot of, you know, we've talked about this before, we've been providing Scully Brace.
And, uh, spec specifically the 3D custom braces, uh, to our patients for over 10 years. And we've been able to complete a lot of additional training and extra training in that so that it's not so much even, uh. How we provide the brace, but how do we utilize that brace as we move forward? And then how can we make different types of changes to that brace, and specifically different kinds of braces for different types of patients.
So, uh, we've learned a lot, uh, to become more advanced, um, in that area of our care. And so I'm excited to share updates about that as well. So, uh, the point of coming back is really just to. Give you guys some awareness and also talk to not just families, but also providers in town. Because what I've started to realize is a lot of the people we work with kind of know what we've been doing, but these additional resources and additional programs and trainings are pretty unfamiliar.
And so even when we talk about them. A lot of the providers don't necessarily know exactly what they're about. Um, either or maybe they've heard of it, but they're not sure specifically what that all entails. So I'm excited to be able to share that, um, with you as well. So when we come up into these next months through the summer, we'll be doing some very specific, um, pieces of information related to.
How we can coordinate with providers, whether that's locally in Bismarck or the state of North Dakota, um, and what that means for them. Like what is our role working with patients with scoliosis in conjunction with what those providers are doing in their own office. So what does that look like? What do we have to offer?
How do we coordinate that? We've really had an opportunity to kind of hone in, um, and come up with some ways that we can work with patients', care teams. That works really well. Um, and in addition to that, we work with a lot of people that might have multiple different areas that they're, they're working with specialists in.
So it's not uncommon that we're working with other care teams, whether that's in Minnesota, whether it's. You know, a neurologist or an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon, um, we're able to coordinate that across the board with different care teams. And so that's been really, uh, eye-opening too, to see how that coordination can help families.
Um, so if you're a provider or if you are a family that's working with that, just know that we've been able to really move forward, um, in those areas. And, uh, that's something that. We're really proud to say that we've been able to, um, help with our community locally. Uh, so as far as families go, so if you're a mom or a dad or even, you know, a patient that has scoliosis or some other spinal condition that you're working with, um, we have a lot of additional tools and resources that we can provide you right here at home, and I think that that's one of the most important things, you know, knowing what it's like to have to travel for medical care.
Whether that's Minnesota or if you're going to a different state, or if you're having to fly to Arizona to go to Mayo or whatever that might be. That can be really taxing. And so that's one thing that we've been able to do for families is provide some of this care right here and at the high level that you would be provided somewhere else at a very, um, specialized facility.
I. So that's something that you have as an option to you now, and we're really excited to be able to talk about that a little bit more. As far as what we've got coming up this summer, there's a lot of things. Um, every year we have SC and Assist Awareness month in June. So we do a lot of different programs.
We do a lot of back to school things. Um, we're talking to a lot of the sports coaches. Most of, you know, coming up in the fall, um, sports physicals are coming up and so some conversations come up in those realms as far as sports physicals, playing sports, what happens if you have scoliosis. Um, all of those things.
But then in addition to that. Simply screening as well. So as your child gets older, you know, what do we need to do as far as making sure, you know, are we checking their spine? Do we need to be concerned? Is there a family history of scoliosis or kyphosis? Uh, things of that nature. Um, but then also in the adult realm.
We've worked with so many adults in the last couple of years, and I will have to say that's one thing that I. Initially when I started doing this work, I didn't really think about, because we mostly worked with kids, and as we started working with kids, we started to realize all of these kids grow up and they become adults that also have kids.
And then when they bring their kids into see us, we're realizing that most of the adults are not having ongoing care. So we've got a lot of adults that we are now working with as far as. What do we do when we're a little bit older and we had scoliosis as a child, how are we managing that? You know, especially if you're having symptoms or pain or, or even if you're post-surgical.
Um, we have a lot of options now that we can do. I. For, um, like pre-surgical preparation, but then also the post-surgical rehab, which has been really helpful. We have quite a few patients that we're working with in that realm and I have just seen so many amazing changes and results from that. Um, and that's not something that was on my radar initially.
So these are some of the things that I really wanna be able to share and I want to be able to talk about openly so that our community knows what our resources are because. I'm learning that not everybody knows, and even as providers, we, we don't always necessarily know what other providers are doing.
And so that's, that's really why I wanted to come back, welcome you all back to the podcast, go through what we've been doing, what we've got coming up, um, and to be able to answer the questions. So in this podcast, we're gonna link a couple of links in there so that you can go to the website. You can read a little bit more about, uh, Scully balance.
You can read a little bit more about the advanced bracing that we use, and you can also go to our website. So I hope that you check those out. I hope that you stay tuned. We're gonna go through some very specific things in these next few episodes, and I can't wait to share it with you.
Thanks for spending time with me today.
